TECHNICAL REPORT

The study that has been made is indicative, in order to give a general idea of how the composition of a city/settlement of refugees may be.

This idea could be even more expanded by creating a city that covers all the needs of the guests and is therefore self contained.

These settlements could be created away from the urban centers, having as a main criterion the fact that there must be a number of basic key infrastructures.

We therefore believe that our land is flat i.e. without big slopes. We simplify the parameters in order to reduce manufacturing costs and secondly since the choice of the areas is not agreed yet.

At this stage of our study, we have created a central idea of how from a taxonomic and urbanization point of view a settlement can be set up.
As a baseline we have some fixed parameters:
These settlements will be surrounded by tall walls so as to have full control of arrivals and departures, as well as full control of the refugees in the event of a terrorist attack.

According to the study that has been made, these residential centers accommodate about 11,200 people. Each house will have a surface of 100m2 and will be designed to cover up a family of maximum 8 persons.

In this case approximately 1,400 prefabricated houses are required. Each residence is designed in such a way so as to be bright and airy and necessarily to have a garden both front and rear.

This drawing solution has many positives:

  1. a) one will have a pleasant stay
  2. b) we maintain sufficient distances between houses without making the design and use of it suffocating,
  3. c) by doing so we are required to build far fewer roads. Therefore we save money.

The central idea of the design is that by entering inside the village, there are two buildings with guards (one at the entrance and one at the exit) with an extensive glass façade in order to check arrivals and departures.
At this point it is practically correct to have a side road, where potential checks may take place from the security without creating traffic jam. Simultaneously, at this point anyone else passing by can stop for a while if there is a need to do so….In this case someone can park strictly for a short time.

Right at the back of the Guards we have designed a large-surface building in which all Incoming Foreigners will be checked thoroughly before they stay in the Settlement. Fingerprints, some basic blood tests will be made; photos will be taken, etc in order to format a complete file for every ” guest ”.
This building will have a large reception hall/lobby in order to meet the needs, especially when on arrival we have more than one buses.

Also an adequate parking for coaches and for smaller vehicles is taken into consideration.

As you enter the interior of the Settlement, initially passing through the necessary check point, right in front of you stands an imposing building, the’CENTRAL Headquarters’ that will house about 300 employees.

On the basement of this building will be placed, for security purposes, the CALL CENTER, which will cover the telecommunications of the whole Settlement.

All over the Settlement we have predicted External Parking Spaces, in order to meet the needs of all users.

Also multiple STORES of different uses are designed, so that on the one hand to cover all possible needs of the ‘guests’ and on the other hand the Settlement itself to begin slowly to become financially autonomous with the method of  money input.

A central idea during the preliminary design is not only to create a newly Settlement with high tech materials and high tech construction techniques, but also to achieve decongestion of the existing urban centers which are already burdened by soaring migrants.
Our proposal is therefore for these immigrants to rent some of the stores supplied by the SETTLEMENT,  so that they also have their income and consequently to become productive members in our country and to stop having any injurious character.

At the same time we will succeed in having profits in our new Settlements.

Going back to the central Plazza of the Settlement, we should highlight that the space that surrounds the central headquarters, the call center, the outposts, & the INCOMING CONTROL CENTRE will be made out of tall walls purely for security reasons.

The entrances to the settlement will be opened by special guards.

A characteristic feature of the study is the strong presence of vegetation either along the roads, or by creating green areas which in turn will have different functions / use throughout the settlement. .
see below: Parks as recreational areas, playgrounds, green zones which operate as a boundary for the various scattered centers have also been created in relation to housing, but also function as sound insulation zones.
Additionally the study is not lacking in the presence of the water element. Its presence contributes to the balancing of human psychology, provides natural cooling, and gives a lot to the aesthetics of the spaces in which we live in.

Also another feature of the design is the use of a grid. This has been done for the sake of proper and straight forward planning. There are many times when going into a town you are lacking in orientation. This is due both to lack of guidance you get from incorrect town planning and urbanization.
Just because the area is large enough to meet all the above needs, it is appropriate to create  large impressive squares, various restaurants, Parking spaces, cafes, laundries, dance schools, libraries, etc …. at regular intervals so that someone  won’t need to travel vast distances to serve his needs.

Because of the above most of the uses are being repeated.
i.e: restaurants, cafes, laundries, pharmacies, bakeries, bookstores, bars, libraries, parking spaces, churches etc.
All over the Settlement sidewalks, walkways and plazas, green areas for both adults and children have been designed.

As for the lighting, on every lamp post, photovoltaic plate will be located. The same applies to housing. All houses will have photovoltaic plates in order to meet the needs of residents. Photovoltaic plates will be placed in all the Public Spaces, too.

In our study Biological Treatment has been taken into consideration. Visually it will give the impression that it is a large park of hills. In reality, encased reservoirs will make all the waste water treatment. This biological cleaning system will be placed somewhere at the back of the village. By doing so an extra buffer zone is created in case of an external threat.

All buildings will be prefabricated. At this stage it is not known if any of the central buildings with have a basement. This will be finalized in the near future. Nevertheless, where we anticipate Basement in our preliminary study, we have done so purely for security reasons.

The materials used will be German, with approved and certified specifications, that should also be environmentally friendly.

The houses like the majority of the buildings will be one story buildings (except from the main buildings), with a very small overshoot from the final landscaped terrain. The reason for the above is purely to avoid flooding because the floor itself will give natural flow to the water.
Nevertheless, in this settlement has become a strategic land use plan in order to minimize the prediction of any uprisings.
In the center of the settlement a TOWER CONTROL BUILDING  has been designed which will not be designed on the ground floor but higher up, approximately 5-6m above, again for security reasons.

This TOWER will dominate at the center of the village, and will have under its authority the whole settlement.
On the four sides of the settlement there will be smaller Control Centers, whose role is complementary. Essentially in case of a rebellion, this design assists in surrounding the enemy and having a 100% control of the case.

Also within the boundaries of the settlement, we have designed in different neighborhoods STORAGE BUILDINGS FOR DRY FOOD, CLOTHING WAREHOUSE, WAREHOUSE for  ELECTRICAL &  HYDRAULIC EQUIPMENT, WAREHOUSE for all CLEANING EQUIPMENT.
Additionally, near the entrance for all the above uses we have located their respective CENTRAL WAREHOUSES but which in turn will be surrounded by high walls again for safety reasons.
At the same time we have considered to have a central RECEPTION BUILDING right  behind the central Plazza, to give directions, hand in the keys for the houses to each new guest etc.. In every neighborhood there are smaller Receptions to serve and solve any problems there may arise. (i.e. If a key is not working, etc.)

Additionally, according to our study  there are several Schools scattered throughout the length and width of the Settlement, HEALTH CENTRES, LAUNDRIES, CHURCHES, STORES, RESTAURANTS, DANCE SCHOOLS, BARS, PHARMACIES, basketball courts, indoor Fitness Centers, Outdoor theaters, Closed Theatres, CINEMA, ATM machines scattered in many parts of the village, green areas, playgrounds, recreational areas etc.
Finally the roads are wide enough so that in case of a  rebellion the Settlement can be divided and specific zones can be isolated. This could be done in several ways … .i.e by constructing tall folding railings or some other electrical construction.

Summarizing there is a list below of the type of buildings that we have considered in our study:
